Are you sick of food recalls? Every month there’s some food being recalled or labeled so bad that the government feels necessary to make us stop eating it for our own good. And then there’s the allergy brouhaha–schools trying to bar kids from bringing peanut butter sandwiches to school in their lunches because some other kid might have an allergy. Airlines being sued because they serve peanuts where unattended children might grab them. I realize allergies are very serious–I have a few of them myself. But I’m not going to go eating shellfish because I know what will happen. Kids aren’t stupid. They’ll not eat stuff that will make them sick if they understand that certain food causes pain and suffering.
The latest food recall is peanut butter. I’m sure those schools that want it banned are saying “I told you so” right about now. But the recall is for foods made with peanut butter, and not necessarily jars of the gooey goodness themselves. And I’m not giving up my peanut butter.
To that end, Funsey Town is making a stand about peanut butter specifically, and food issues in general. Check out our I am a Rebel t-shirts and gifts. We even have shirts for kids and babies that declare “I am a Rebel! I’m eating the peanut butter”. Maybe the shirts could also serve as warning labels so people with food allergies will stay far away while you enjoy your peanuts, peanut butter sandwich, spinach and apple salad and char broiled chicken.
